Penny Black Christmast Card – Card #2

This is the second card I made using the same Christmas cat stamp set from Penny Black.

This round, I masked off the present from the stamp and just stamping the cat. I first stamp my black Versa Fine Onyx Black on the stamp, wiping off any ink on the present area. Then I stamp that image onto my card base. This method will be a bit more troublesome as you need to be very careful while inking your stamp and to wipe off all the inks on the present image area. Sometimes, if there is still residue, the ink will then transfer to the card base. I did over wipe the image and some part of the cat’s hand was not transfer to the card base, so I needed to fill that in with a black marker.

I then tried another method, that is to stamp the full Christmas cat immage onto my post-it masking paper, then cut out the present, and place the mask on my card stock before stamping my Christmas cat onto my card stock. This is also a challenging task for me, to line up the image and the mask.

Next, I worked on the frame of my card, I did a rectangle thin frame border using one of my border dies. Before I run the frame die through my die cut machine, I first blended my card stock with yellow and green Distress Inks and let it dry. I find die cutting with a semi-wet card messed up the final result. While the card is drying, I work on the background of my card, using Simon Says Stamp Jumbo Stripes stamp set and work out some same lines for the background using almost the same shade of green and yellow that I used for the frame. While this background dries, I am back to working on the thin frame and run it through my die cutting machine.

Next, I stamp my sentiment below the Christmas cat, using Clearly Besotted’s Laugh Out Loud Christmas. This sentiment is a bit more, but I masked the rest off and only inking “Dear Santa”. I wanted the Christmast Cat to be making a Christmas wish to santa because it’s hands are in the air and “Dear Santa” just fitted nicely with the image.

On the inside of the card, I used another sentiment from the same Clearly Besotted set, choosing “I’m trying to get into the Christmas spirit but I’ve lost my bottle opener!”

I then adhere all layers together, starting with the thin frame on the same card base with my Christmas card, and added the stripes background card behind the cat card.

I hope you like the card and let’s keep.intouched!
